Hoof (2024)

Hoof is a sculptural lighting piece that reimagines the familiar form of the anglepoise lamp through a surrealist lens, bridging childhood memory, design history and functional art.
At its core is a salvaged pressed steel leg and hoof, once part of a mid-century Prairie King rocking horse. This fragment of a beloved toy, weathered by play and time is restored and recontextualised as a luminous object, merging the whimsical with the refined. Offered in copper, brass or chrome, each finish evokes a distinct sensibility, from warmth and nostalgia to industrial clarity.
The piece features a custom tilt mechanism, allowing the hoof to shift with intention, as if gesturing or responding to its environment. Set atop a matte black, powder-coated steel base, the form becomes both stable and striking, a dynamic silhouette grounded in contrast.
Hoof is a celebration of craft, memory and material transformation. It invites viewers to reconsider the objects of their past and how those forms, reframed, can continue to move, function ,and glow with new meaning.
